Our Geek Baby Shower

Posted on 17. Feb, 2011 by pinky in Pinky, Uncategorized

We had our Geek theme baby shower/celebration on The 5th and it was great. We have such lovely friends who came to join us. Much much love and anticipation is surrounding #Koos’ arrival.

On the night before I had as usual planned way too much for us to do in my usual over ambitious way, The Geek is so infinitely patient with my big plans, but needless to say we did not get that much sleep on the Friday night.

We made sweet bags for the kids and candels for each family ( we asked that people light their candles when they hear we are entering our birthing time, not that we really believe in vibes coming to us, but more that it is nice to know that people are thinking of us and the collective goodwill for #koos’ safe arrival. I asked that people either tweet, FB or email the pictures to me so I can make a little collage of the candles and messages after Koos is here. So if you were not at the baby shower please still feel free to light a candle for us on the day and send us the pictures. @pinkhairgirl on twitter or email cameronsallyjane@gmail.com)

We even planned a Rock, Paper, scissors, Lizard, Spock competition which Boo won, it totally slipped my mind to take any photos during the tournament but it was funny.

There was a fire engine ballpit/pool for the kids to play on and the trampoline which some not so small kids played on too. I believe that there are pictures of some of our jumpers?

We even had Greek Alphabet cupcake that @cupcakemummy on twitter made for us, and a tetrus cake that The Geek iced at about 4am and which I sadly did not get any nice photos of.

I made The Geek open all the presents as this is his first baby and he should be in on the fun, we made it very clear that presents were not required and that it was all about spending time with our friends and celebrating, but we are really grateful for all the generous gifts people gave.

The Geeks family of course who I did not get pictures of. There are a few who escaped my camera but I just want to thank everyone so much for coming all the way out to our place. I know how much Capetonians hate driving far.

Thank you all so much, it was a really special day, and great to know so many people care about us and our little family

Henna Belly

Posted on 12. Feb, 2011 by pinky in Pinky

Last Saturday before the baby shower I went to have a henna/mehndi design done on Koos. Robyn kindly agreed to come with me and take some pictures. It was really relaxing and amazing to watch how quickly Chandra worked. She had an wonderful steady hand and was so friendly and kind. I would hight recommend anyone in Cape Town that wants henna done to give her a call. Chandra Magan 0727436642 6ondove@gmail.com

These pictures were just taken with my phone, I forgot the proper camera but they do show the process

She first cleaned it with lemon juice to make it henna last longer and remove the natural oils on the skin or any lotion that stop it sticking.

Just working from the picture she was able to do the whole design free hand.

Belly Cast

Posted on 07. Feb, 2011 by pinky in Pinky

We made this last week in preparation for the baby shower as we wanted to use it like a visitors book that everyone could sign that came and joined us for the day. It was actually quite fun to make, and the Geek was so cute, trying to get it all perfect

Geek baby shower

Posted on 24. Jan, 2011 by pinky in Pinky

We have decided to have a baby celebration, it is less of a traditional baby shower and more of a braai and celebration with our friends. It Is The Geeks first baby and I really wanted him to be involved and not just a ladies only thing.

For us it is not about the gifts, we have had such generous donations from friends and family with clothes and stuff we are just about sorted. For us we want to share the day and have fun.

I wanted to decide on a theme or what decorations we were going to make so I thought of doing a geek baby shower. I think since we met on line and The Geek is well… a geek it was fitting.

Some of my ideas so far
- Greek alphabet cupcakes
- Tetras cake
- kubik’s cube, computer stuff, abacus, ABC blocks decorations
- Rock, paper, scissors, lizard, Spock competition for a cool prize
- formula and equations and stuff on the walls and some problem to solve at the loo for those who fancy.

Other ideas? my poor brain is hot and not working that well

I have also decided to add my own more Hippy tenancies as The geek calls them and have a belly cast done before and get everyone to sign it. I also want to get a henna belly done earlier in the day and have the #Koos house all decorated for the day.

I am quite excited it should be fun so if you are in CT on 5 Feb and want to come join us please shout so I can send you the details, this is a relaxed fun afternoon so feel free to join

Is it the done thing

to have a baby shower for a third baby? Well technically my third but The Geek’s first. Traditionally the guys are not involved in the whole baby shower thing.

I had one with Rachel, not a big surprise and no embarrassing games, but all just women, got some really useful gifts.

I did not have one with Caleb as it is not a custom in the UK at all. I did do a belly cast and henna belly with my sister and friend. Ex was uninvolved as always.

This time it feels different, I want to celebrate with my friendsĀ  more than it being about gifts. I want The Geek to be involved and included after all this is all new to him.

Our house is starting to look like a baby may be joining the ranks, Cazpi lent us a high chair, we have a pram, Bumbo, electric pump and monitors from Shelly, and #Koos even has a few clothes. My sister brought all the things my nephew out grew from the UK.

For our baby celebation I want to do a henna belly and have a braai celebrate this new family with our friends. Is it odd or rude if I organize this myself?
